case study: IT Organisational Restructure

BACKGROUND Our client, a major Australian financial institution, recently made an acquisition. As part of the integration infrastructure technology was to be substantially upgraded.   There was a need to achieve substantial FTE savings from the integration and the investment in new infrastructure. To get maximum benefits from the acquisition the organisation wished to take the best from both organisations. The cultures of the two organisations needed to change from “us and them” to "one company".
OUR ROLE Our approach engaged key influencers in both organisations to define the existing organisation and the organisation of the future.  The ITIL framework was applied in designing the future organisation.  Organisation change frameworks based on respect and empowerment were applied.

RESULT

The restructure delivered its expected benefits:

  • FTE reduction of 20% agreed by key influencers and delivered within 12 months
  • Key people from both organisations were retained in the new structure
  • Substantial improvement in staff engagement
